MAAC Concludes 2009-10 MAAC Basketball Television Regular Season Schedule with Niagara at Fairfield on Sunday

Edison, N.J. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference will conclude its 2009-10 MAAC Basketball Television Regular Season Schedule on Sunday, February 28, with Niagara University taking on Fairfield University at the Arena at Harbor Yard at 12:00 p.m., live on the MSG Network.
Niagara is now 17-13 overall and 9-8 in league play. The Purple Eagles are led by senior guard Tyrone Lewis, who averaging 16.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Senior guard/forward Bilal Benn is registering 13.4 points and 9.8 caroms a night for Niagara.
Fairfield stands at 19-9 overall and 12-5 in the MAAC. The Stags are led by freshman guard Derek Needham, who is averaging 16.0 points and 5.4 assists per game. Senior forward Anthony Johnson is contributing 15.3 points and 9.5 rebounds an outing for Fairfield.
On January 4, Lewis scored 22 points to lead Niagara to a 77-68 win over Fairfield at the Gallagher Center. Lewis shot 11-for-12 from the free throw line for Niagara, while Rob Garrison added 19 points and five steals. Benn contributed with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Niagara used a 13-4 run early in the second half to jump out to a 49-37 lead following a layup from Garrison with 15:50 remaining. That helped the Purple Eagles maintain the lead for the rest of the contest, as Fairfield would get no closer than six points. Needham scored 28 points for the Stags on 12-of-24 shooting. Yorel Hawkins chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds. Niagara was outrebounded 40-38, but was able to score 19 points off of Fairfield's 16 turnovers.
