BUFFALO, N.Y. - Canisius College men's basketball player Greg Logins has been selected as an Academic Momentum Award winner by the Scholar-Baller program, in conjunction with the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS). Logins was one of 10 male honorees after nominations came from 32 colleges and university nationwide.

The senior forward was tabbed as the representative for the Northeast region for the award. Winning nominations included stories of overcoming learning disabilities to progress academically; becoming the first in their family to graduate with a degree from a college or a university; and organizing local community service programs around the areas of campus. Logins, along with his four other senior teammates on this year's men's basketball team, earned their undergraduate degrees from the College last May and all five student-athletes are currently working towards their master's degrees at Canisius.

On the basketball court, Logins starts his final season as a Golden Griffin just 85 points shy of joining the school's 1,000-career point club. Recently, he was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Third-Team by the conference's coaches, and he will once again serve as a co-captain for the Blue and Gold this year.

The NCAS is an ever-growing organization of colleges and universities that provides opportunities for current and former student-athletes to continue their pursuit of higher education, while working in the community with children to address social issues. Established in 1985, the overall mission of the NCAS is "to create a better society by focusing on educational attainment and using the power appeal of sport to positively affect social change."

Established in 1995, the Scholar-Baller movement evolved in response to concerns that the student-athlete's role in athletics increasingly superseded the student role. In order to address this issue, the foundation members of Scholar-Baller developed a groundbreaking program to bridge the gap between education and sports utilizing student-athletes' passion for entertainment and athletics.
