Sosa, a senior captain, scored a season-high 25 points on Thursday against Manhattan and then he followed that effort with a game-high 18 points Saturday against Siena as the Golden Griffins went 2-0 last week to move to 5-3 in MAAC play for the first time since 1997-98. He averaged a team-best 21.5 points per game to go with 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 0.5 steals per game, while shooting 58.3 percent from the field, 47.4 percent from 3-point range and 85.7 percent from the free-throw line. The guard from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico hit five 3-pointers in the win over Manhattan and drained four more shots from long range against Siena, giving him three more makes from behind the arc in 12 of the team's last 13 ball contests.
Rookie of the Week
T.J. Cline, Niagara, Fr., F, 6-8/220, Plano, Texas/Plano West
Cline averaged 12 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game as Niagara extended its conference winning streak to seven games in a sweep of Siena and Manhattan. Cline was extremely efficient from the field. The 6-foot-8 forward from Plano, Texas, shot 77.8 percent (7-for-9) from the field, 66.7 percent (4-for-6) from the behind the arc and 75 percent (6-for-8) at the free-throw line in the two games. Cline has scored in double figures in three straight games for his longest streak in his brief career. He scored 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting and grabbed five rebounds in the win over Siena. Cline had five rebounds and scored 11 points, including draining a pair of free throws with 18 seconds left to give NU a 63-60 lead against Manhattan.
