Manhattan to Host Canisius on Thursday on ESPN3

Edison, N.J. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference continues its 2012-13 MAAC Basketball Television Schedule with Manhattan College hosting Canisius College on Thursday, Feb. 7. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Draddy Gymnasium, and the National MAAC Game of the Week will air live on ESPN3.
Canisius, 15-8 overall and 8-4 in the MAAC, is led by junior guard Billy Baron, who is averaging 16.3 points and 5.7 assists per game, and senior guard Isaac Sosa, who is posting 13.0 points and 2.1 rebounds an outing for the Golden Griffins.
Manhattan is currently 7-15 overall and 5-7 in the MAAC. The Jaspers are led by junior forward/center Rhamel Brown, who is averaging 11.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, and junior guard Michael Alvarado, who is registering 8.7 points and 2.5 rebounds a night.
On Jan. 17, Sosa scored a season-high 25 points and hit the clinching free throws as Canisius overcame a 10-point first-half deficit, then held on to defeat Manhattan, 64-60, at the Koessler Athletic Center. The Golden Griffins closed the first half on a 17-4 run to lead 28-25 at intermission. Canisius built its biggest lead at 60-47 with 3:57 to go, but saw it dwindle as the Jaspers reeled off 11 straight points to make it 60-58 with 36 seconds left. After Chris Manhertz answered with two free throws with 18 seconds remaining, Alvarado's layup eight seconds later made it 62-60. Sosa hit both of his foul shots with eight seconds to go. Harold Washington added 12 points for Canisius. Shane Richards and Alvarado scored 18 apiece for the Jaspers.
