Edison, NJ - In April seven MAAC softball programs participated in "Pink Games" to raise for breast cancer. Canisius College, Fairfield University, Iona College, Marist College, Rider University, Saint Peter's University and Siena College each hosted a home softball game where student-athletes and coaches wore pink shirts and invited local breast cancer survivors to attend the games.

"We feel that this annual event reminds us how this disease touches so many lives," Fairfield Head Coach Julie Brzezinski said. "This is our way of trying to make a difference by promoting breast cancer awareness."

A total of $2012.50 was raised. Rider collected $785 to donate to former cross country and track & field assistant coach Sally Martinez who has been battling breast cancer for several years.

Siena raised $529.50 for the Capital Region Action Against Breast Cancer (CRAAB!). “It’s nice to see not only our team but the other team come together and be able to bring awareness, said Antiona Edwards, a sophomore pitcher from Siena. “We are competitors but at the same time we all can relate to family members having cancer.”

Canisius held a home run derby in between their softball double header against Niagara University. For $5, participants got three chances to hit a home run. All money raised was donated to the Western New York Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.
