EDISON, N.J. – 42 teams in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference were recognized by the NCAA for their multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) and placed to the Division I Academic Performance Program (APP). Seven Fairfield University teams earned spots on the APP list, the most of any MAAC institution.
Each year, the NCAA honors select Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I APR. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.
“The large number of teams on the Division I Academic Performance Program reinforces the MAAC’s commitment to excellence in both athletics and academics,” said MAAC Commissioner, Richard Ensor. “I congratulate the student-athletes who have worked hard both in the classroom and on the field to earn this honor.”
The women’s basketball programs of Canisius, Iona, Marist, Manhattan and Niagara were all placed on the APP. The sports of Men’s Golf and Women’s Cross Country were the most represented for the MAAC in the APP, with each sport having six teams qualify.
