EDISON, N.J. - The MAAC Council of Presidents at its December meeting at the University Club in New York City voted to require that if the permissive NCAA legislative proposal on the agenda of the Autonomy 5 legislation agenda which provides cost of attendance (COA) financial aid for all student-athletes passes in January, that the MAAC will require such financial aid be provided to all of its men’s and women’s basketball student-athletes.
“The MAAC Council of Presidents have viewed the historic standard of tuition, room & board, fees and books to be sufficient and consistent with the aid provided to all it students,” notes Richard Ensor, Commissioner of the MAAC. “That said, the Council also recognizes that with the pending COA legislation that would allow aid up to attendance, it becomes important to require the MAAC men’s and women’s basketball programs to provide such financial aid to insure the coaches can recruit effectively. This is consistent with past MAAC requirements to fund basketball at the maximum financial aid level under NCAA legislation for the league’s sport of emphasis.”
