Chavaughn Lewis Earns Two More Weekly Honors

NEW YORK – Marist senior guard/forward Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) earned two more weekly honors on Tuesday. Lewis was named Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week and ECAC Player of the Week.

Lewis averaged 28.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game while shooting .656 (21-for-32) from the field this past week. Marist went 2-0 as the Red Foxes swept Niagara and Canisius in western New York for the first time in their 18 years in the MAAC. He had 22 points to go along with two rebounds, two steals, an assist and a blocked shot in a 65-61 win at Niagara on Jan. 30. At Canisius on Feb. 1, Lewis celebrated his 22nd birthday with a career-high 35 points. He shot 14-for-16 from the field and also finished with six rebounds, three assists and a steal in the Red Foxes’ 75-67 win.

Lewis currently 1,916 career points, which stands third in program history. He trails second-place Rik Smits by 29 points, and first-place Steve Smith by 161.

Through games on Feb. 2, Lewis ranks 10th in the nation in scoring (20.7 ppg) and 30th in steals (2.11 spg).

Lewis was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week and College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week on Monday.
