EDISON, N.J. – ESPN has announced the matchup selection for the final wildcard game of the 2014-15 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) broadcast package. Saint Peter’s will host Iona on March 1 at the Yanitelli Center on ESPN3 at 2 p.m. in men's basketball action. March 1 marks the final day of regular season play in the league.
The two teams met on Jan. 31 in New Rochelle, New York, as the Gaels came away with a 68-61 overtime victory on ESPN3. Iona was paced by junior A.J. English’s 21 points, while senior David Laury added an 18-point, 13-rebound effort.
Saint Peter’s had a four-point lead with 15 seconds left to play, but the hosts rallied back to force the extra period. Iona went on to outscore the Peacocks by an 11-4 margin for the win. The Peacocks held the Gaels to a season-low 34.4 field goal percentage in the contest.
With the announcement of the final wildcard, the first-place Gaels will now appear on the ESPN Family of Networks in five of their final six regular season games of the year.
A total of 47 games will be nationally televised on the ESPN networks during the 2014-15 campaign, which includes 37 regular season contests and 10 contests at the 2015 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York.
This season’s MAAC television schedule features an all-time high of 11 wildcard games. The wildcard format allows ESPN to pick any game on schedule for the selected date to be air on the designated platform (ESPN2, ESPNU, or ESPN3). ESPN announces which game it selects for the wildcard telecast 21 days out. The format enables the MAAC and ESPN flexibility to showcase the best possible matchups.
The 2015 season culminates at the 2015 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York March 5-9. Tickets for the championships are available online at ticketmaster.com.
