Player of the Week

Marvin Dominique, Saint Peter’s

Sr., F, 6-7, 215, Miramar, Fla./Fordham/Miramar

Marvin Dominique averaged 22.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in three games, but it was the senior’s dominance in two games that led the Peacocks to a pair of victories. Dominique averaged 26.6 points and 5.5 rebounds to pace Saint Peter’s to a pair of second-half comebacks against Siena on Monday and Niagara on Friday.  He posted 18 of the squad’s then season-high 48 second half points to rally from a nine-point deficit against the Saints in a 65-57 win on Monday and then registered 21 of the squad’s season-high 50 points to rally from a 12-point margin against Niagara in a 75-63 win on Saturday. Dominique then added 15 points and seven rebounds against Canisius on Sunday. The Miramar, Fla., native, shot 64.7 percent (22-for-34) from the field and 24 of 27 (88.9) percent from the free throw line in the three games and that included a 9-for-9 performance from the field and 9 of 10 from the free throw line against the Purples Eagles where his only miss came from the free throw line with 1:08 left in the contest. Dominique now has four 20-point games this season and his back-to-back 20-point contests marked only the second time in his career that he had consecutive 20-point games. The senior leads the team with 14.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

Rookie of the Week

Schadrac Casimir, Iona

Fr., G, 5-10, 155, Stamford, Conn./South Kent School/Trinity Catholic

Freshman Schadrac Casimir led the Gaels to three road wins in six days, extending the team’s streak to eight straight, by averaging 19.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.0 steals. He shot 57.6 percent from the field, 73.3 percent from beyond the arc and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. The Stamford, CT native scored 19 points at Fairfield Tuesday, a team-high, and was 7-for-11 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc in his “homecoming” game in Bridgeport. Casimir matched a team-high with 22 points in the Gaels thrilling win at Manhattan Friday night on ESPNU, posting virtually the same shooting numbers as the previous game. In the team’s finale of the week, the 5-10 rookie had 16 points and a career-high eight rebounds against one of the top rebounding teams in the country. After scoring 11 of his 16 points in the first seven minutes, he scored the final five of the game for the Gaels in the last 42 seconds. Casimir drove against multiple Quinnipiac big men and hit a left handed scoop shot and converted the ensuing free throw to break a 55-55 tie and give the Gaels the lead for good. He hit two more free throws with 19 seconds left to extend his streak to 40 straight and remain perfect at 43-for-43 in MAAC play this season.
