Five MAAC Men's Basketball Players Earn All-Met Honors

NEW YORK – Five Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s basketball players were named to the 2014-15 All-Met Division I men’s college basketball teams announced Wednesday by the Met Basketball Writers Association.

Iona College duo of A.J. English and David Laury were named to the All-Met First Team, Manhattan College’s Emmy Andujar earned a spot on the All-Met Second Team, while Andujar’s teammate Ashton Pankey and Marist College’s Chavaughn Lewis were selected to the All-Met Third Team.

English, a 6-foot-4, junior guard from Wilmington, Delaware, was named to the All-MAAC First Team for the second consecutive season after leading Iona to the MAAC regular season title. He finished the 2014-15 season ranked second in the MAAC in scoring and assists averaging 20.1 points and 5.1 assists per contest. A unanimous selection to the All-MAAC First Team, English also led the conference with 3.1 made three-point field goals per game and was named to the MAAC All-Championship Team. This postseason, he earned District 1 First Team honors by National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and was also named to the 2015 Lou Henson All-America Team.

Laury, a 6-foot-9, senior forward from East Orange, New Jersey, was named MAAC Player of the Year and a unanimous choice to the All-MAAC First Team. He finished the season averaging 19.8 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game, which were good for third and second in the league rankings respectively. Laury’s 19 double-doubles ranked second in the MAAC and was seventh nationally. He was also selected to the MAAC All-Championship Team. In addition to his MAAC accolades, Laury earned spots on the 2015 Lou Henson All-America Team, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 1 First Team, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Stars Second Team, and a finalist for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award.

Andujar, a 6-foot-6, senior forward from the Bronx, New York, led Manhattan to its second consecutive MAAC Championship in 2015. He ended his career for the Jaspers as the first player in program history to record 1,200 points, 700 rebounds, 300 assists, and 150 steals in a career. Andujar finished the season ranked sixth in the league in scoring averaging 16.3 points and fourth in rebounding, averaging 7.6 per game. He was third in the MAAC in steals with 2.0 per outing and ranked fifth in both field goal percentage at 51.2% and assists with 3.5 per contest. He earned a spot on the All-MAAC First Team, the MAAC All-Championship Team, and was selected as a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 1 First Team.

Panky, a 6-foot-10, senior forward from the Bronx, New York, helped lead Manhattan to the 2015 MAAC Championship en route to being named the championship Most Valuable Player. He concluded the 2014-15 campaign averaging 13.4 points and 6.7 rebounds, good for eighth in the conference. Pankey’s 52.9 field goal percentage ranked third in the league and his 1.4 blocks per game was fifth in the MAAC. He earned All-MAAC Third Team honors in his final season.

Lewis, a 6-foot-5, senior swingman from Queens, New York, ended his career at Marist as the programs all-time scoring leader with 2,119 points, which places him at sixth on the MAAC all-time list. He finished the year as the league’s leading scorer and stealer, averaging 20.6 points which ranked 10th in the nation, and 2.3 steals, which ranked 13th. He claimed a spot on the All-MAAC Second Team and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 1 Second Team.

Award recipients will be honored at the 82ndNIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards Dinner on April 22 at the Westchester Marriott.
