WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth University defeated Marist College, 4-1 and has advanced to the 2016 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Game.
Freshman forward Madie Gibson tallied the first goal of the evening for Monmouth in the 20th minute of play. Gibson found the back of the net off a setup from junior forward Rachelle Ross and sophomore Alli DeLuca.
In the 32nd minute, Rachael Ivanicki found the back of the net with a header to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead. Gibson registered the assist on Invanicki’s score. Ross was able to extend the Hawks’ lead to 3-0, when she scored in the 81st minute off a pass from Miranda Konstantinides.
Brianna Robinson got Marist on the board in the 84th minute and was assisted by Ashlee Burke to cut Monmouth’s lead to 3-1.
Ross scored her second goal of the evening in the 90th minute of play. The junior forward finished the game with two goals and an assist for the Hawks.
Monmouth University will now face the winner of tonight’s second semifinal matchup between the number two seed Siena College and four seed Quinnipiac University.
