MAAC Announces 2007-08 Men's Basketball All-Rookie Team

EDISON, N.J. The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announces the 2007-2008 All-MAAC Men's Basketball Rookie Team, selected by the MAAC’s head coaches.

The team is made up of Loyola's Brian Rudolph, Marist's Jay Gavin, Niagara's Anthony Nelson, Rider's Mike Ringgold and Saint Peter's Wesley Jenkins. One of these five players will be named the 2007-2008 MAAC Rookie of the Year, also selected by the head coaches of the league. The award winner will be announced on Thursday, March 6 at a 5:00 p.m. awards reception at the Times Union Center, the site of the 2008 Citizens Bank MAAC Basketball Championships.

Rudolph, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound freshman guard from New Bedford, Mass., was a top performer for Loyola this season. He averaged 7.1 points, 4.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game for the Greyhounds. He netted double digits in 10 games during his rookie campaign. Rudolph was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week six times this year.

Gavin, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound freshman guard from Seat Pleasant, Md., was a formidable presence for the Red Foxes this season. He averaged 12.1 points and 2.8 rebounds a night, while shooting 39.9 percent from the field. Gavin had 20 double-digit performances this season and earned five MAAC Rookie of the Week honors.

Nelson, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound freshman guard from Plainfield, N.J., was a key component to the Purple Eagles' success this season. In 28 regular season games, he averaged 5.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and a freshmen-best 5.2 assists per game. Additionally, he registered four double-digit scoring efforts and earned one MAAC Rookie of the Week honor.

Ringgold, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound freshman forward from Philadelphia, Pa, proved that he is a formidable frontcourt player in his first season with the Broncs. He averaged 7.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for Rider. Ringgold also shot a rookie-best 61.9 percent from the field, good for second place in the conference. He recorded eight double-digit scoring performances this season, and won one MAAC Rookie of the Week award.

Jenkins, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound freshman guard from Newark, N.J., enjoyed a strong first season for the Peacocks. He averaged a freshmen-best 13.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals over 28 games played this season. Jenkins also registered 20 double-digit scoring efforts this season. He earned MAAC Rookie of the Week accolades twice during the season.
