Edison, N.J. - Former Rider University standout Jason Thompson was chosen by the Sacramento Kings as the 12th draft pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.

Thompson is the MAAC's highest NBA Draft pick since Lionel Simmons from La Salle University was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the seventh pick of the 1990 NBA Draft.

The Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America selection, Thompson was the 2008 MAAC Player of the Year and a two-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. He ranked second in the nation in rebounding (12.1), 18th in blocked shots (2.7), 29th in scoring (20.4) and 36th in field goal percentage (.560).

Thompson, the 2008 Haggerty Award winner, graduated with 2,040 points and 1,171 rebounds, one of just 96 Division I players ever to compile both 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
