Shoemaker, Pavolko, Bolstad, and Eliazar Win Weekly Awards

Edison, NJ – Kevin Shoemaker of Marist College was selected as the MAAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while Siena College’s Brittany Pavolko earned the women’s award. Marist swept the Diver of the Week awards, with Brian Bolstad winning on the men’s side and Chelaine Eliazer taking the women’s honors.

Shoemaker, a sophomore from Saucon Valley, Pennsylvania, won three events and scored 27 points for Marist as the team coasted to a 182-116 victory at Fairfield for its first MAAC dual meet victory of the season. The Red Foxes took first place in 11 of 13 events. Shoemaker claimed the top spot in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1:59.76, the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:14.31, and the 400-meter individual medley with a mark of 4:47.26.

Pavolko, a junior, won seven events over the weekend as the Saints went a perfect 3-0 against C.W. Post, Fairfield and Manhattan. In Friday’s victory over the Pioneers, Pavolko notched individual triumphs in the 200 free (2:01.32) and 100 fly (59.73). Additionally, she teamed with Britney Anderer, Kaela Bjornberg, and Katie Ness to pace the pool in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:50.78. Then, in the Saints’ sweep of MAAC rivals Fairfield and Manhattan, the Pittsfield, Mass. native combined to help set a new school record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:01.04, while also posting top times in the 100 fly (1:00.88), 200 fly (2:14.73), and 400 free relay (3:41.32).

Bolstad, a junior from Highland, New York, remains undefeated off the 3-meter board, a perfect 4-0, in as many meets this season. He scored 312.75 points at Fairfield on Thursday night and won the board by over 36 points. He also took first place in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 286.35, with a 24.6 point margin of victory.

Eliazar, a freshman from Honolulu, Hawaii, was a double-winner in the diving events as Marist defeated Fairfield 176-120 for its first dual meet win of the 2009-10 campaign. Eliazar won the 1-meter board with a mark of 205.35, while she scored 201.75 points in 3-meter diving.
 
The 2010 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships will be held February 11-13 at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md.
