TOWSON, MD. - Junior forward Joe Touloumis (Cranford, N.J.) of the Marist men's soccer team was named a Third Team Academic All-American by ESPN the Magazine as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday.  He was one of nine forwards who received the award, and the only one from District I (the northeast) at the University Division. Touloumis is the ninth Academic All-American in the history of the Marist College Department of Athletics.

Touloumis scored six goals this season for Marist, with half of his tallies holding up as game-winners. He also added two assists for a total of 14 points, to lead the Red Foxes' upperclassmen in scoring. Touloumis started 15 matches and played in 18 this season. He was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 14 as he scored game-winning goals in Marist victories over Army and Drexel.

On Thursday, Oct. 29, Touloumis became the second Marist student-athlete to be named to the All-District Team twice in his career. The first Red Fox to be a two-time selection was Alyson Fiorillo, a member of the swimming and diving and water polo teams.

The men's soccer team finished its 2009 season with a record of 8-8-2 and 4-4-1 in the MAAC, good for fifth place. It was the first time since the 2005 season the Red Foxes finished with a winning percentage of .500. Marist also wrapped up the 2009 campaign ranked eighth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) North Atlantic Region.
