Quiroz, Jackson Earn MAAC Tennis Player of the Week Awards

Edison, NJ – Niagara’s Jeremy Quiroz was selected as the MAAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Fairfield’s Nikki Jackson earned Women’s Player of the Week honors.
Quiroz, a freshman from Bakersfield, California, went 3-0 in singles matches and 2-1 in doubles in Niagara's 3-0 weekend. The Purple Eagles No. 1 won in straight sets in each match. Quiroz defeated Bucknell's Gregg Cohenca 6-3, 6-1, Colgate's Phil Bernasek 6-2, 7-5, and Saint Peter's Sergey Igel 7-6(4), 6-4.
Jackson had a stellar week for the Stags going a combined 6-0 to help Fairfield to three consecutive victories. Jackson’s biggest victories of the week came against Liberty on Monday afternoon as she helped the Stags to a 4-3 win. With the match knotted a 3-3, Jackson topped Fabiana Gouveia, 6-2, 5-7, 10-8, at third singles to give Fairfield the win. Jackson was also crucial in doubles as she and partner Dana Postupack secured the point with an 8-3 victory at the second spot. Just several hours earlier, Jackson helped Fairfield to a 6-1 win over South Dakota State by topping Nellie Bloomberg, 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles and posting an 8-2 win at second doubles. Jackson started the week by defeating Lafayette’s Emily DeLuca, 6-1, 6-0, at fourth singles and notching an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles in Fairfield’s 7-0 win. Jackson is 5-2 overall in singles play and 10-7 overall in doubles.
The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships will take place from April 23rd through April 25th at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
