EMERY WELSHMAN, SIENA
F, So., 5-11, 160, Mississauga, Ontario/Loyola Catholic
Welshman, a sophomore forward, tallied five points on two goals and one assist in Siena's 5-1 victory over Syracuse in the season opener last Wednesday. He assisted on Joey Tavernese's goal when he sprinted down the flank to catch a through ball, and then served it across the penalty box where it was one-timed into the side netting. Welshman scored the next two goals, one off a scramble in the box and the other on a breakaway.
MAAC Defensive Player of the Week
KYLE WITTMAN, LOYOLA
GK, Sr., 6-1, 197, Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall College
Wittman, a senior goalkeeper, recorded his first shutout of the year in Loyola's season opener. He stopped all of Campbell's five shots on goal en route to the clean sheet. The shutout marked the 10th of Wittman's career.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
SAMUEL ADJEI, IONA
F, Fr., 5-8, 170, Newark, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep
Adjei, a freshman forward, was Iona's top scorer with five points in the first week of action. He had two goals, including the game winner, in the Gaels' 5-1 season opening victory over Hartwick. Adjei then added an assist in the next game against Hofstra. He posted a SOG percentage of 80% with four shots on line in five attempts.
