Edison, NJ - Iona's Leonard Korir and Hollie Rowland were selected as the MAAC Men's and Women's Runner of the week, respectively.
Senior Leonard Korir earned first place individual honors and led the No. 5 Iona College men's cross country team to a third place finish at the 2011 Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State. Korir finished the 8k event in 23:55. Korir finished three seconds ahead of Colorado's Andrew Wacker to take the individual title. The Gaels finished behind No. 8 Colorado (82 pts) and No. 12 Portland (104 pts) in the team standings.
Junior Hollie Rowland finished sixth overall to lead the Iona College women's cross country team to an eighth place finish at the 2011 Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State. Rowland finished the 6k event in 20:46. No. 3 Florida State took the team title followed by No. 5 Georgetown, No. 18 Michigan, No. 4 Colorado, RV Cornell, UC Davis, and RV Dartmouth before Iona's eighth place performance. UC Davis, Iona and Central Michigan were the only teams in the Top 10 to not be receiving votes in the national poll.
The 2011 MAAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be held on October 28th at Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale, New York.
