Jersey City, N.J. - Top-seeded Niagara University will face second-seeded Fairfield University in the 2011 Volleyball Championship Match at Saint Peter's Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, N.J.
Niagara finished the regular season with a 17-1 conference record and 23-8 overall mark. The Purple Eagles swept local rival Canisius in the semifinals to advance to their third consecutive final. Niagara, the two-time defending champion, is looking to win its third straight title and third in program history. The Purple Eagles are 2-1 all-time in the championship game.
Fairfield, the second seed in the tournament, won a thrilling 3-2 semifinal match against Siena. Fairfield had previously lost its last four championship meetings against Siena. The Stags look to avenge their only two conference losses of the season against Niagara. Fairfield, 5-7 all-time in championship match, will make its 13th appearance in the title game, the most of any MAAC program.
The winner of the championship will receive the MAAC's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship.
