Shawn Parkhurst, Canisius Men's Swimming and Diving

Parkhurst has picked up
where he left off last season when he captured the MAAC individual titles in
both the 1000 freestyle and 200 fly. This season, Parkhurst has captured five
first-place finishes, while breaking a program mark that stood for 16 years in
the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.28 at the Cleveland Dual Meet Invite on
Nov. 28. The junior currently holds the school record in six total races, including
his recent record-breaking performance in the 200 freestyle. On Dec. 1-3,
Parkhurst will compete in the 1500 freestyle and 200 fly among world-class
competitors at the 2011 AT&T Winter National Championships held at the
Georgia Tech Aquatics Center in Atlanta. Parkhurst is the first Golden Griffin
to represent the College at this event and is attempting to qualify for the
2012 U.S. Olympic trials. Parkhurst's success in the pool mirrors his academic
achievements, receiving 2011 MAAC Men's Swimming and Diving All-Academic Team
honors. The physical and health education major holds a 3.74 overall GPA.
Kate Conard, Marist Women's Swimming and
Diving
Jr. - East Setauket, N.Y.
Conard continues to lead the Red Foxes and the MAAC as the preeminent women's
distance freestyle swimmer. The two-time MAAC Most Outstanding Championship
performer and current record-holder of the fastest 500-, 1000- and 1650-yd
times in conference history is off to another great start to her junior season.
During the first six meets of the 2011-12 season, she has
managed to post the fastest conference times in 100-yd. backstroke, 500-, 1000-
and 1650-yd freestyles, as well as top five times in the 200-yd freestyle and
200-yd backstroke. Conard also excels in the in classroom, earning a spot on
the 2011 MAAC All-Academic Team. She is majoring in Psychology/Special
Education.
