Morris, Leberfinger, Barr and Tobias Honored With Weekly Awards

Brennan Morris was named the MAAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, while Marist
College's Greta Leberfinger earned the award
on the women's side. Fairfield's Evan Barr was chosen as the Men's Diver of the
Week and Marist's Kimberly Tobias was selected
as the Women's Diver of the Week.
Morris won all seven events he competed in this weekend to lead
the Loyola University Maryland men's team to victories over Iona, Marist and
Saint Peter's in the team's MAAC opener. With three individual titles, Morris
ran his undefeated streak to 14-straight victories in individual events this
year. His time of 3:48.81 in the 400 IM ranks third in the NCAA this season and
breaks his own school record of 3:49.71 from last year's MAAC Championships. He
also broke the school record in the 500 free with a winning time of 4:26.08,
while his time of 15:21.50 in the 1650 free currently ranks 10th in the
country. He was also a member of four winning relay teams, the 200-yard medley
relay (1:33.47), 400-yard medley relay (3:28.88), 400-yard free relay (3:07.42)
and the 800-yard free relay (6:59.12).
Leberfinger
had a stellar meet for the Red Foxes as the team swept the field at the H2ounds
Invitational. Individually, she swam to two first place finishes and a second,
while participating on two victorious relays. She won both the 200-yd
breaststroke and 200-yd IM, while setting MAAC season-best times. In the 200-yd
breaststroke, she scorched the competition with a 5.03 second victory at
2:17.06. In the IM race, she again beat the field by a wide margin with her
time of 2:07.15, 3.15 seconds ahead of second place. Her third individual race
was the 100-yd breaststroke, which she finished in second place with a time of
1:03.71. In her relays, the 200- and 400-yd medleys, she swam the breaststroke
legs in times of 29.34 and 1:02.94, respectively. As a team, the 200- and 400-
relays posted the fastest MAAC season-times with 1:47.52 and 3:50.58
marks.
Barr won both
the 1-meter and 3-meter events at the Wesleyan Cardinal Diving Invitational on
December 3. Barr posted a personal best of 235.80 to win the event to win the
1-meter and captured the 3-meter with a score of 228.40.
Tobias
had an excellent diving meet for Marist at the H2ounds Invitational as she dove
to 30-plus point victories in both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. In the
1-meter, she totaled 239.60 points and won by 32.85 and totaled 219.55 in the
3-meter for a 30.20 margin of victory.
The 2012 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships will be held Thursday, February 16
through Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Erie Community College in
Buffalo, NY, hosted by Canisius College and Niagara University.
