Kayla Stroman, Niagara Women's
Basketball
So., Guard - Syracuse, N.Y.
After missing a majority of the 2010-11 season due to injury, Kayla Stroman of the Niagara women's
basketball team (3-6) has wasted no time making an impact on the
court. From the first game of the season against the Buffalo Bulls,
the sophomore wanted to prove she hadn't lost her stride and did so by
registering a team-leading 10 points. The Syracuse native has played a major
hand in all three of Niagara's wins this season, including tallying the
game-winning basket with five seconds remaining in regulation that led to the
Purple Eagles 61-60 victory over the Colgate Raiders. In Niagara's first win of
the season against Bucknell, Stroman finished the game with 10 points, going
3-for-4 from the floor and hitting both attempts from three-point range.
In the team's most recent win over Binghamton, the Purple Eagle guard helped
build Niagara's final lead with 19 points, shooting 7-for-14, including 3-for-9
from three-point range. The sophomore's 19 steals ranks her fourth in the Metro
Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) while her 29 assists and 13 three-pointers
places her in eighth place in each category. She is also ranked 11th
in three-point percentage (.302).
