Machado, Iona Men's Basketball
Sr., Guard - Queens, N.Y.
Senior guard Scott Machado has helped lead the Iona College men's
basketball team to a 9-2 record this season.
Recently named a candidate for the Bob Cousy award for the third time,
Machado is averaging 15.1 points and an NCAA high 10.5 assists per contest. He has recorded six double doubles this
season, including a 33 point, 10 assist effort against Saint Joseph's. Machado has also hit the 15 assist mark in
three contests this season, including back-to-back efforts against Western
Michigan and Maryland at the 5-hour ENERGY Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
Ali Heller, Rider Women's Basketball
Sr., Guard - Boca Raton, Fl.
One of the top
three-point shooters in the nation, 5-8 senior guard Ali Heller has helped lead
the Rider University women's basketball team to their best start since the
2002-03 season. A Business Administration major, Heller is second on the team
averaging 11.2 points per game and is averaging over 23 minutes per contest coming
off the bench for the Broncs. Heller has had two 20 plus point efforts this
season, compiling a career-high 26 points in Rider's 68-48 win at St. Francis
(NY) on November 30 and had a 24 point effort, shooting eight for 12 from the
field in a 66-56 win at Binghamton on December 17. Heller is currently tied for
first in the conference in three-pointers per game (29th in the nation) and is second
in the MAAC in three-point field goal percentage (19th in the nation), sixth in
field goal percentage and 13th in scoring.
