Student-Athletes of the Week (1-17)
MAAC Sports
Juan'ya Green, Niagara Men's Basketball
Fr., Guard - Philadelphia, Pa.
Nineteen games into the season, Green
is first amongst the nation's freshmen and 33rd nationally in
scoring with 18.6 points per game. The Philadelphia native ranks in the
top 10 in the conference in six categories, including third in steals (33),
third in assists (77) and sixth in free throw percentage (.819). The
business major is second all-time in freshman scoring history at Niagara with
353. After this past weekend's win over the Marist Red Foxes,
Green tied Tyrone Lewis ('10) for second place and needs 115 points to pass
Garry Jordan ('81) for most points by a freshman.
Green has played a major hand in all of the Purple Eagle wins this
season, including their most recent victories over the Saint Peter's Peacocks and
the Marist Red Foxes. In the 85-73 win over the Peacocks, Green led Niagara in
scoring for the 11th time this season with 20 points for his seventh
20-point game. Green set a new career-best by going 11-for-11 at the
free-throw line to become the first player to be perfect from the charity stripe with a
minimum of 10 free throw attempts since Tyrone Lewis on Feb. 2009. Two
days later against Marist, the freshman guard contributed to the offense with a
career-best nine assists and added eight points.
