Morris, Yoshida, O'Rourke and Jones Honored With Weekly Awards

Edison, NJ - Loyola University Maryland's Brennan Morris was named the MAAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, while Fairfield's Michelle Yoshida earned the award on the women's side. Niagara University's Ian O'Rourke and Ashley Jones swept the Divers of the Week Awards.

Morris continued his dominance in the pool this season, winning three more events against UMBC and Towson on Saturday, running his streak of undefeated individual victories to 20-straight races. Morris claimed the 200 yard IM title in 1:53.75, completed the 500 yard freestyle in 4:37.51 and touched first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:28.51. Morris was also on the Greyhounds' 200 yard medley relay that finished third in 1:37.71.

Yoshida opened the second half of her final season with the Stags by winning three individual events and helping the Stags relay to a second place finish against Rider University at the RecPlex. Yoshida captured the 100m backstroke with a time of 1:05.38. Yoshida posted a win in the 50m freestyle, clocking a time of 27.57 second, touching out Rider's Taylor Byerly who had a time of 27.96 seconds. Yoshida finished the day by winning the 100m freestyle with a time of 1:00.75, defeating Rider's Carlee Oswald by nearly a second. Yoshida also swam the lead leg of the second-place 200m medley relay which posted a time of 2:04.82 just off the pace of Rider who finished in 2:04.78. Yoshida's split of 30.96 seconds was the fastest in the pool.

O'Rourke won both the one- and three-meter diving events in the 159-84 loss to the Canisius Griffins. He captured the three-meter event with a score of 347.25 and the one-meter in 267.22. 

Jones had a solid showing on the board in the 151-92 loss against the Canisius Golden Griffins. She grabbed a victory in the one-meter dive with a final score of 243.21 and also placed first in the three-meter event (232.65). 

The 2012 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships will be held Thursday, February 16 through Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY, hosted by Canisius College and Niagara University.
