Edison, NJ - Manhattan College's Roman Ewald and Andrea Nyback earned the MAAC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track Performer of the Week awards, respectively.
Ewald, a senior from Olching, Germany, finished first in two events and third in another, as Manhattan won the team title at the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships. Ewald improved his season-best in the discus throw, winning the competition with a toss of 52.12 meters (171 feet). He also won the shot put (16.44 m, 53'11¼) while taking third in the hammer throw (54.25 m, 178'0). All three marks bettered the IC4A-qualifying standard, and Ewald also moved into position to compete in the NCAA East Regional in the discus.
Nyback, a junior from Koping, Sweden, broke her own school record in the heptathlon at the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships over the weekend. Nyback compiled 4886 points, 30 more than she had while setting the previous record at this meet last year, to win the competition by more than 500 points. She finished first in four of the seven events and second in the other three.
The 2012 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6 on the campus of Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J.
