Player of the Week
Emily Elek, Canisius, Jr., Outside Side Hitter, 5-8, Wescosville, Pa./Emmaus
Elek
posted 35 kills (3.18 kills per set) and one attack error on 78 attack attempts
to record a .436 attack percentage en route at the Art Carmichael Invitational.
Elek didn't record an attack error in the last two matches, the first Golden
Griffin with 12 kills and zero errors in back-to-back matches in 10 years. Elek
also had two service aces and three blocks in the win over Rhode Island.
Libero of the Week
Allyson
Severyn, Canisius, Sr., Libero, 5-5, Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's
Severyn
averaged 6.45 digs per set in three matches at the Art Carmichael Invitational
en route to being named to the All-Tournament Team. The senior had a
season-high 33 digs in the five-set match against host Rhode Island, the fifth
30-dig match of her career. Severyn also had a .933 service reception
percentage on the weekend.
Rookie of the Week
Nicole Marzik, Fairfield, Fr., Outside Hitter, 5-9,
Prosper, Texas/Prosper
Rookie Nicole Marzik helped Fairfield to a 4-0 week and to a
title at the Sacred Heart Invitational by recording 27 kills, 29 points, and 22
digs for the Stags. Marzik opened the week by tallying nine kills on .368
hitting with seven digs in the Stags win over Quinnipiac. In the opening match
of the SHU Invitational, she then posted eight kills and nine digs in the Stags
victory against Dartmouth. Marzik came up big in the Stags' 3-2 win over
Central Florida by tallying seven kills and five digs. She closed out the week
with three kills, a dig, and a block in the 3-0 victory over Sacred Heart.
