Player of the Week
Lamont Jones, Iona, Sr., G, 6-0, 196, Harlem, N.Y./Univ. of Arizona/Oak Hill Academy (VA)

Jones averaged 30.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals in Iona's first two contests at the 2012 Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, USVI. Jones scored a tournament record 40 points in the Gaels' opener vs. Quinnipiac. He buried three-point field goals on back-to-back possessions at the end of the game including one with 4.2 ticks left that sent the game into overtime. In a 26-point win vs. Wake Forest, Jones posted 21 points and a team best six assists.


Rookie of the Week
Tyler Hubbard, Loyola, R-Fr., G, 6-1, 167, Mitchellville, Md./Montrose Christian H.S.

Hubbard was key off the bench for the Greyhounds in a 3-0 week as the Greyhounds won the Springfield Bracket of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena. The redshirt freshman averaged 10.3 points in the Greyhounds three victories, including a career-high 17 on Wednesday night in a win over UMBC. Hubbard came in to the game against the Retrievers and sparked a first-half Loyola run with 14 points before the break. In all, he made 6-of-7 shots and 4-of-5 from behind the arc against UMBC. On Saturday afternoon in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off, Hubbard went for 11 points against Norfolk State. He then scored three, but was a part of critical defensive stops down the stretch in the win over Albany to secure the tournament title. In all, Hubbard averaged 10.3 points and an assist per game in the Greyhounds' wins. He shot .667 (12-of-15) from the field and the same (.667, 8-of-12) from 3-point range.
