Bechert, Coleman Earn Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week Honors

Edison, NJ - Manhattan College's Tom Bechert and
Rider University's Latazah Coleman were named the Men's and Women's Indoor
Track & Field Performers of the Week for the week of December 11, 2012.
Bechert, a 6-3 junior from Munich, Germany, achieved a pair
of IC4A-qualifying standards in a dual meet with Columbia last Friday at the
New Balance Armory Track & Field Center. He cleared 2.04 meters (6 feet,
8.25 inches) to win the high jump then ran the 60-meter hurdles in 8.1 seconds
to qualify for the IC4A Championships in both events. Bechert also won the long
jump on Friday, leaping 6.88 meters (22 feet, 7 inches). He previously
qualified for the IC4A meet in the pole vault.
Coleman, a 5-8 freshman from Middletown, Delaware, placed
first in both the 60-meter with a time of 7.76 seconds and the 200-meter dash
with a time of 25.57 in her collegiate debut at Lehigh's Fast Times. Both of
her winning times set Rauch Field House records. Coleman was also third in the
60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.93 seconds and third in the high jump at 1.6
meters.
The MAAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships
will be held on Friday, February 15th at The Armory Track & Field Center in
New York City.
