Joris Van Eck - Marist College
Men's Tennis, Sr., 5-11, Ospel, The Netherlands/Masstricht University
Van Eck has had a strong 2012-13 campaign for the Marist men's tennis team. The senior co-captain from The Netherlands is 13-6 in single's action after going a perfect 3-0 last week in a tournament at Army. Van Eck has also added six wins in doubles' action, typically playing against the opponents' top players. He has been named to three All-MAAC teams in his career, including two First Team selections as a sophomore in 2011 and a Second Team doubles' selection last season. In his three-plus seasons, he has amassed 74 total wins for the Red Foxes.
Off of the tennis court, Van Eck excels in the classroom having twice been named to the MAAC All-Academic Team as an Accounting major and Business minor.
Clare Battaglia - Canisius College
Women's Swimming & Diving, Fr., 5-5, Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville North
Capturing first-place finishes in 17 of the 23 total races competed in, freshman Clare Battaglia has established herself in the MAAC. Against MAAC opponents, Marist, Niagara and Siena, Battaglia recorded top-finishes on the road in all eight of her total individual races. On Oct. 20 versus host Marist, she placed first in the 200-yard IM (2:16.74), 100-yard backstroke (1:00.30), and 200-yard backstroke (2:09.35). In her first experience of the rivalry between the Griffs and Niagara, she recorded first-place performances in the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.16) and 200-yard IM (2:14.38). At Siena on Nov. 17, she nabbed a pair of individual events, swimming to first-place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.60) and 200-yard IM (2:12.46). In her career debut for the Golden Griffins, the freshman recorded a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.95) at the Western New York Invitational on Oct. 13. Majoring in psychology, she currently holds a 3.34 GPA.
