Tavon Sledge – Iona College
Men’s Basketball, So., G, Spring Valley, N.Y./Iowa State/Half Hollow Hills West
Tavon Sledge appeared in 34 games this season for the Iona College men’s basketball team and finished averaging 6.1 points on the year. He set a career-high 20 points in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament against Ohio State. Sledge finished the season with seven double figure performances and one double-double against Saint Peter’s on Jan. 25. The local product from Spring Valley emerged as the point guard after transferring from Iowa State. Sledge uses his speed and athleticism to break traps and get around defenders. He finished the year with 108 assists and 40 steals.
Dashana Ransome – Rider University
Women’s Outdoor Track and Field, Fr., 5-3, Sprints/Hurdles/Jumps, Irvington, N.J./Irvington
In her first outdoor collegiate meet, Dashana Ransome set Rider records in the long jump and 100 hurdles as the Broncs competed at the VCU Ram Invite in Virginia. Ransome was second in both the long jump (5.60m) and the 100-meter hurdles (14.44) and qualified for ECAC's in the 100-hurdles. A Finance and International Business major, Ransome help Rider to a runner-up MAAC finish during the indoor season, placing third in the 60m hurdles in a Rider record time of 8.68 at the MAAC championships in mid-February.
