16 Qualify for NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Edison, NJ – 16 MAAC competitors qualified for the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. 15 of these competitors qualified for the NCAA Division I Eastern Preliminary Outdoor Track & Field Championships to take place from May 23-25 at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. One competitor automatically qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships taking place from June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
Iona will send nine athletes to compete in the Eastern Preliminary round. Matt Bayley, a senior from Wantirna, Victoria, Australia will participate in the 3,000m steeplechase for the Gaels. Mitch Goose, a graduate student from Norwich, England, Daniel Clorley, a graduate student from Luton, England, Matthew Gillespie, a graduate student from Dollar, Scotland and Kieran Clements, a freshman from Hadleigh, England will all compete in the Men’s 5,000m run. Sophomore Andrew Kowalsky from Winsor, Ontario will represent Iona in the Men’s 10,000m run. Qualifying for the Women’s Easter Preliminaries are Kirsten Stewart, a junior from Newarket, Ontario who will participate in the 1,500m run, Regina Neumeyer, a sophomore from Immenstaad, Germany who qualified for the 3,000m run and Mario Joly-Testault, a senior from Gex, France who will run in the 10,000m.
Manhattan will send three athletes to North Carolina for the Eastern Preliminaries. Mohamed Koita, a senior from Cergy, France qualified in the men’s high jump and Brian McGovern, a senior from Yonkers, N.Y. will participate in the men’s vault. Also representing the Jaspers will be sophomore Lydia Wehrli from Anieres, Switzerland. She will compete in the women’s hammer throw.
Tom Bechert, a senior from Munich, Germany automatically qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. He will represent the Jaspers in the decathlon.
Rider is sending two student-athletes to the Eastern Preliminaries. David Hightower, a senior from Easton, Pa. will compete in the men’s 110m hurdles while La’tazah Coleman, a freshman from Middletown, Del. will compete in the 200m run.
Saint Peter’s Isaiah Harris, a sophomore from Orange, N.J., qualified for two events in the Championships. He will in both the high jump and triple jump.
