Six MAAC Players Selected for 72nd Annual USILA North-South Game

Edison, N.J. – Six seniors from three programs in the MAAC Men’s Lacrosse League have been selected to participate in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/ Laxworld North-South Senior Lacrosse Game, which will be played this Friday, May 24 on the campus of Cabrini College in Radnor, PA.
Marist College’s attack men Jack Doherty and Connor Rice and defenseman Ethan Fox will compete on the North team alongside Siena College’s attackman Danny Martinsen and goalkeeper Matt Sharp while University of Detroit Mercy’s long-stick midfielder Jordan Houtby will play for the South squad.
Doherty, a member of the 2013 All-MAAC First Team, scored a conference-high 33 goals this season. He topped the 30-goal plateau in each of his three seasons in a Marist uniform. He is also second on the Red Foxes and in the league with 45 points in 2013.
Rice, the 2013 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, finished his career with 194 points, tying for fourth on Marist’s all-time list. His 98 career assists also put him fourth in Marist history and his 96 career goals place him fifth. He led the MAAC in scoring in 2013 with 49 points on 19 goals and a career-high 30 assists, which is good for ninth in Marist’s single-season history. His assists and points total also led the league.
Fox, a member of the 2013 All-MAAC First Team, led the Marist defense this year with 19 caused turnovers while scooping up 38 ground balls, tying for the second on his team.
Martinsen, the 2013 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, finished his career with 98 goals and 69 assists for 167 points which puts him sixth on Siena’s all-time points and assists list. His 98 career goals is ranked ninth in Siena’s history.
Sharp, a member of the 2013 MAAC All-Tournament Team led the league and ranks 11th nationally averaging 12.69 saves per game. He posted an 8-8 record between the pipes with an 11.20 goals against average and .537 save percentage.
Houtby, the three-time MAAC Long-Stick Midfielder of the Year, helped Detroit’s defense to finish top three in the nation in caused turnovers during all four of his years. He is the NCAA's all-time leader in caused turnovers with 158 and has been top 10 in the country in caused turnovers since his freshman season. He also picked up 289 career ground balls and scored 14 points with nine goals.
The 72nd USILA/LaxWorld North-South Games will be played at the Edith Robb Dixon Field on the campus of Cabrini College in Radnor, PA, on Friday May 24, 2013. The Division I/II game will be played at 5:30 p.m., immediately following the Division III game, which will take place at 3 p.m. The Division I/II North team will be coached by Eric Seremet, the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach at the United States Air Force Academy. Seremet is just completing his fifth year as the Air Force Head Coach. The South team will be led by Mike Corrado from Villanova University.
