LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL  -- Senior forward Brittany Pfaff picked up where she left off in the regular season, scoring the only goal the Siena College women’s soccer team needed, as the sixth seeded Saints defeated 11th seeded Saint Peter’s 1-0 in the first opening round match of the 2013 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports.

Pfaff scored on a through ball at the 70:27 mark of the second half, taking a feed from Coreena D’Alfonso down the center of the field. Pfaff’s shot from about eight yards out beat the outstretched reach of Saint Peter’s freshman goalkeeper Molly O’Halloran.

Pfaff, from Charlotte, VT., led Siena, and the MAAC, in scoring during the regular with 30 points, and tied for the league lead with 12 goals with Ashley Small of Fairfield.

Siena peppered O’Halloran with 20 shots. The Saints had a number of close opportunities in the first half but were unable to convert. Siena’s goalkeeper Taylor Booth made two saves on six Saint Peter’s shots.

Siena, now 10-8-1 overall, will face No. 3 seed Iona in quarterfinal round action on Friday at 11 a.m. Iona drew an opening round bye.
