Iona's Armand, Siena's Wright Take Weekly Awards

Sean Armand poured in a team-high 30 points as Iona knocked George Mason from the ranks of the unbeaten with an 89-73 win. In the process he became Iona’s all-time three-point field goal leader. Armand, a preseason All-MAAC first team choice, hit 10-of-16 shots from the field and was 6-of-7 from the foul line against the Patriots. He sank 4-of-10 from beyond the three point arc, including career three-point number 264, surpassing Steve Burtt’s record of 263 set seven years ago. Earlier in the week, Armand scored 14 points in the Gaels’ loss at No.2/3 Kansas, in a game where Iona led throughout the first half, and with nine minutes left, trailed by just nine. Armand averaged 22 points, 3.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals for the week.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
MARQUIS WRIGHT, Siena

Siena broke through with its first two wins of the season and Marquis Wright was a big reason why. From his point guard position Wright averaged 9.7 points and 5. 3 assists per game, and shot 52 percent from floor. Wright also contributed 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game for the week. Wright hit the winning shot for the Saints, a difficult runner off the glass, in their 72-70 win over St. Bonaventure, with just 0.2 seconds left on the clock for their first win of the year. Siena scored 48 points in the first half against the Bonnies, and Wright has seven assists without a turnover. In Siena’s second win last week, at Cornell, Wright had a season high 12 points and added four assists. Siena faced Purdue on the road in its final game of the week and Wright scored 10 points, and added five assists and three steals against Boilermakers.
