Three-Time Defending Champions Canisius Favorites in MAAC Women's Lacrosse

EDISON, NJ – The three-time defending champions, Canisius College, were selected as the favorites to win its fourth consecutive title in 2014, according to the league's nine head coaches.
Canisius finished their 2013 campaign 14-5 overall and 6-0 in the MAAC. The Golden Griffins defeated the Marist College Red Foxes 10-9 in the 2013 MAAC Championship title game in route to its record third straight MAAC Championship.
Canisius’ Maria Kotas and Tori Quinn were chosen as the 2014 MAAC Preseason Co-Players of the Year. The 2013 MAAC Championship MVP, Kotas was also a member of the All-MAAC First Team as she set career highs with 67 points, 42 goals and 25 assists. 2013 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, Quinn, was a member of the All-MAAC First Team and set a school record with 79 points, posting 47 goals and 32 assists. She also led the MAAC and ranked 21st nationally with 4.16 points per game.
The 2013 MAAC Championship runner-ups, Marist College, were second in the poll with 67 points. Fairfield University finished just behind them with 64 points for third in the poll. League newcomer Monmouth University finished in fourth receiving 57 votes, while Iona College rounded out the top five with 38 points. Siena College received 36 points, good for sixth, and Quinnipiac University picked up 32 votes for seventh. Niagara University finished in eight with 17, and Manhattan College received 15 votes to round out the standings.
The preseason All-MAAC team consists of Quinn, Iona’s Mary Kate McCormick, Marist’s Tierney Larson, Monmouth’s Cassie Campasano, Niagara’s Carrie-Jo Farrugia, and Quinnipiac’s Kyra Ochwat make up the attack. At midfield are Kotas, Fairfield’s Courney Chmil, Marist’s Jamie Romano, Monmouth’s Kaleigh Gibbons, and Siena’s Julia Sirianni. The defense is made up of Canisius’ Ashley Bull, Iona’s Angela Grous, and Marist’s Bailey Knapton. The keepers are Kayla Scully of Canisius and Katie Donohe of Monmouth.
