MAAC Women's Basketball Seed Possibilities and Tie-Breakers

Edison, N.J. - As the women's basketball regular season winds down, there is still much to play for in the final games in the MAAC. Each team looks to earn the highest seed possible and aim to finish in the top five of the MAAC to avoid playing the First Round games on Thursday, March 6.

The Iona Gaels have already taken the first seed, but will need to beat Marist tomorrow to take sole claim of the regular season champion trophy. The Fairfield Stags and Quinnipiac Bobcats also know where they are slated come MAAC Championships as Fairfield takes the No. 3 seed and Quinnipiac holds the No. 4 spot on the bracket. Below are the tie-breaker scenarios for the last games of the season.

Iona (18-1) vs. Marist
Clinched #1 seed
Will play Friday, March 8th at 12:00pm against the winner of #8/#9

Marist (17-2) at Iona
Clinched #2 seed
Will play Friday, March 8 at 7:00pm against the winner of #7/#10

Fairfield (14-5) at Niagara
Clinched #3 seed
Will play Friday, March 7th at 9:30pm vs. the winner of #6/#11

Quinnipiac (14-6) season completed
Clinched #4 seed
Will play Friday, March 8th at 2:30pm vs. #5 seed

Rider (9-10) at Canisius
Clinch #5 with WIN
#6 with LOSS AND Niagara LOSS
#7 with LOSS AND Niagara WIN and Manhattan LOSS

Manhattan (8-12) vs. Quinnipiac –season complete

Tie-breakers:

If Iona and Marist tie for first at 18-2
Iona is #1 and Marist is #2
Teams split head to head. Fairfield split with first place Marist while Iona swept by Fairfield giving Iona the tie-breaker.

If Fairfield and Quinnipiac tie for third at 14-6
Fairfield swept Quinnipiac giving them the tiebreaker

Canisius swept Rider so they would win the tiebreaker.

Teams split head to head. Both teams were swept by Iona, Marist, QU and Fairfield.
Manhattan had the best record (3-1) in the mini conference with Rider and Canisius so therefore they would get the tiebreaker.
