Gaels Take Down Wildcats in Consolation Game

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Third-seeded Iona College earned a 14-7 victory over fourth-seeded Villanova University in the consolation game of the 2014 MAAC Women's Water Polo League Championship, held at Marist's McCann Natatorium.
Senior Amy Olsen led the Gaels with four goals. First Team All-MAAC member Erika Lauraitis scored three, while Katie Stelnicki and Hannah Cross scored twice. Rebecca Matthews, Dana Andrea and Taylor Silva registered one goal apiece for Iona. The Gaels finished out their season with a final record of 15-16 and 10-4 in MAAC play. 2014 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Amy Olsen finished the season with 107 goals and 368 in her career, leaving Iona as the all-time leader in career goals for the Gaels.
Junior Callan Edwards paced the Wildcats with three goals, while Sarina Shibata netted two goals in the fourth quarter. Shelia Gerrity and Naomi Ng recorded a goal apiece. The Wildcats secured a record of 10-19 and 6-8 in conference matches. Naomi Ng, Villanova’s All-MAAC First Team selection finished with 39 goals on the year.
