Siena Defeats Marist 1-0 in First Round of Women's Soccer Championship

EDISON, NJ – The sixth seeded Siena Saints will be advancing to the 2015 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship semifinals after defeating third seeded Marist College, 1-0, in the first round of the MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship.
The lone goal of the contest came in the 51st minute of the second half when Siena freshman forward Meghan Riccardi put one in the back of the net for the fourth goal of the season. Siena goalkeeper, Liz Rogan, recorded her eighth shutout of the season while making one save in the contest.
The first set of 45 remained scoreless after a Siena goal by Allison Clark was called off due to an offside penalty. The last time a sixth seed advanced to the MAAC Women’s Soccer championship was in 2013 when the Siena Saints knocked off third seeded Iona College.
The Red Foxes outshot the Saints 14-5 but were unable to put one in the back of the net. Marist goalie Makala Foley recorded three saves in the defeat.
The Siena Saints will take on 2015 MAAC Women’s Soccer Regular Season Champion, host Monmouth University, in the semifinals of the 2015 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship on Friday, November 6 at Hesse Field. The time is still TBD.
