Offensive Player of the Week

Erica Evans, Canisius

So., M, 5-8, Peterborough, Ontario/St. Peter’s Secondary

Evans led the Golden Griffins to a 19-6 victory over Monmouth Saturday afternoon, recording career highs in both goals (8) and points (10), while tying a Canisius single game record for goals in a game at 8.The sophomore midfielder has been instrumental in the Griffs’ last two games, totaling an eye popping 18 points in the two victories, with 13 goals. The sophomore excelled in all areas recording 12 draw controls, 4 caused turnovers and 4 groundballs. Evans now leads the team in both goals (41) and points (53) on the year.

Defensive Player of the Week

Kara McHugh, Marist

Sr., M, 5-4, Madison, CT/Daniel Hand

McHugh picked up four ground balls and caused six turnovers as Marist defeated Manhattan and Quinnipiac this week. Three of her ground balls came in a 25-12 win over the Jaspers on April 13 while half of her caused turnovers happened during a 13-2 victory at the Bobcats three days later. The two goals allowed Saturday at Quinnipiac were the lowest total by Marist’s defense since 2014 and least in a MAAC game since 2008. McHugh also won a draw control, scored six goals and handed out three assists in the pair of conference contests. The Red Foxes have outscored their opponents 38-14 in their last two games.     

Rookie of the Week

Tessa Chad, Canisius

Fr., A, 5-8, Orono Ontario/The Hill Academy

Chad secured the Griffs 12-11 victory over Siena on Wednesday, scoring the game winning goal in overtime, while adding an early second half goal that tied the game at eight. Chad was instrumental in the Blue and Gold’s 19-6 victory over Monmouth on Saturday, scoring three times. The freshman now ranks third on the team in points (29) and goals (26).
