Monmouth Hawks are Leading after the First Day of the 2016 MAAC Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships

Lawrenceville, NJ - The Monmouth men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams are atop the leaderboards following the first day of action at the 2016 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at Rider University. The Hawks' men’s squad enters the second day with 79 points in front of second-place Manhattan who earned 55 points, while the Monmouth women’s team has 59 points, and Iona is in second with 34 points.

Rounding out the men’s scoring was third-place Iona (40), fourth-place Rider (31), fifth-place Marist (13), sixth-place Canisius (11), seventh-place Siena (3) and finishing out the rankings is Saint Peter’s in eight-place with 2 points. Rounding out the women’s scoring were third-place Rider (32), fourth-place Quinnipiac (30), fifth-place Manhattan (25), sixth-place Marist (12), seventh-place Siena (14), and tied for eighth-place is Canisius and Niagara with 0 points.

Events of the Day:

In the men’s hammer throw, Manhattan’s Blerim Pocesta won with a throw of 62.19m. Pocesta was a MAAC field performer of the week for the week of March 22nd.

In the men’s long jump, Manhattan’s Hayden Clark came in first and broke a MAAC record held since 2005 (7.37m) with a jump of 7.59m.

In the men’s pole vault, Rider’s Erik Adamcik was the top finisher with an effort of 4.55m.

In the women’s javelin, Monmouth’s Faith Blamon had a first-place finish with a mark of 43.99m. Blamon was a two-time MAAC field performer of the week for the 2016 outdoor track and field season.

In the men’s javelin, Joe Clarke of Rider University finished in first after a throw of 55.03m.

In the women’s hammer throw, Carly Timpson, a MAAC field performer of the week for the week of May 3rd came in first with an effort of 53.75m.

In the women’s long jump, Manhattan’s Ellinor Persson took the top spot with a jump of 5.82M.  Persson was a MAAC field performer of the week for the week of April 5th.

In the 3000m women’s steeplechase, Iona’s Jessica Scheriff finished in first place with a time of 10:45.25.

In the 3000m men’s steeplechase, Brandon Allen of Iona won with a time of 8:56.61.

In the men’s 10,000 meter run, Iona’s Otis Ubriaco won with a time of 30:46.67.

In the women’s 10,000 meter, Rider’s Nicolette Mateescu won with a time of 37:24.50 making this her second-straight first place finish in this event at the MAAC Track and Field Championships.
