Walk-Off Suicide Squeeze Lifts Canisius Over Fairfield 1-0

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – It took one extra inning to get a final score, but Canisius defeated Fairfield 1-0 on a walk-off suicide squeeze by Moriah Harris, which scored Samantha Sharkey who led off the frame with a single.

Starting pitchers, Madi Weathers and Destinee Pallotto traded zeros and both pitched well. Weather gets the win after going eight innings, scattering four hits and striking out four. Pallotto struck out seven over seven and a third, there was one out when the winning run scored.

Canisius will now face Monmouth at noon, the game was previously scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Fairfield has been eliminated from the 2016 MAAC Softball Championship.

*Marist and Quinnipiac will now be played at 9:30 a.m., moving up from 11:00 a.m.

 The 2016 MAAC Softball Championship is a double elimination style tournament with the championship final taking place on Saturday, May 14 at noon. If the team coming out of the loser’s bracket defeats the team in the winners’ bracket, the second and deciding game will take place at 2:30 p.m.
 
The winner of the 2016 MAAC Softball Championship will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Championship. The NCAA Softball Selection Show is on Sunday, May 15 on ESPNU at 10:00 p.m.
