Oberdorf Strikes Out 13 on Friday the 13th to Advance Marist to the Championship Round

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – 2016 MAAC Softball Pitcher of the Year, Marist’s Jayne Oberdorf struck out 13 Quinnipiac Bobcats to give Marist a 2-0 win. The Red Foxes will play on Saturday, May 14 at noon against the winner of game 9, which features Quinnipiac and the winner of the Canisius/Monmouth matchup in the championship round.
The Red Foxes got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when Korak drove in Duddy on an RBI single. Kelliher hit a bullet home run off the scoreboard in right field in the bottom of the fifth inning to give Marist a 2-0 lead, which they would not relinquish.
The 2016 MAAC Softball Championship is a double elimination style tournament with the championship final taking place on Saturday, May 14 at noon. If the team coming out of the loser’s bracket defeats the team in the winners’ bracket, the second and deciding game will take place at 2:30 p.m.
The winner of the 2016 MAAC Softball Championship will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Championship. The NCAA Softball Selection Show is on Sunday, May 15 on ESPNU at 10:00 p.m.
