Howerth's Walk-Off Hit Advances Hawks to Championship Game

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – In the highest scoring game of the 2016 MAAC Softball Championship, which resumed from yesterday afternoon due to rain, Monmouth defeated Quinnipiac 8-7 in a wild extra inning contest.
In the bottom of the 8th inning, Baron singled through the left side with two outs. Hill reached on single. Howerth delivered the game-winning single and Baron scored the winning run on a close play at the plate, getting underneath the catcher’s tag to score the winning run from second base. This game featured four home runs, 15 runs, 22 hits and 8 combined errors.
Monmouth will face Marist at 12:10. If necessary, Game 11 will be played at 2:30 P.M. and the 2016 MAAC Softball Championship will be decided in the 11th and final game of the weekend.
The winner of the 2016 MAAC Softball Championship will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Championship. The NCAA Softball Selection Show is on Sunday, May 15 on ESPNU at 10:00 p.m.
