Fairfield University Claims 2017 MAAC Baseball Regular Season Championship

EDISON, NJ – For the second-straight season, Fairfield University, are the MAAC Baseball Regular Season Champions. The Stags finished the 2017 season with a 17-7 conference record, finishing one game ahead of Canisius and Marist College. With 17 MAAC victories this season, Fairfield tied a program-record for most conference wins, sharing the record with last year's 2016 MAAC Championship team and the 2000 Stags team.

Fairfield enters the 2017 MAAC Baseball Championship as the number one overall seed and has earned a first-round bye. The Stags will play on Wednesday, May 24 at 7pm on MAAC.TV

The Stags are led offensively by Troy Scocca and on the mound by Gavin Wallace. Scocca, finishes the 2017 regular season with a .326 batting average, seven home runs and 41 RBIs. He was named MAAC Player of the Week on April 25.

Wallace went 8-4 for Fairfield, tossing seven complete-games and four shutouts while pitching to a 2.94 ERA. Wallace struck out 72 batters over 85.2 innings pitched. Wallace was named MAAC Pitcher of the Week four times this season. As a team, Fairfield leads the MAAC in batting average (.288) and ERA (3.77)

The 2017 MAAC LifeStorage Baseball Championship, takes place at Sal Maglie Stadium in Niagara Falls, NY and is co-hosted by Canisius College and Niagara University. The first game of the championship takes place on Wednesday, May 24 at noon.
