Jamal Barney, Loyola

Barney, a sophomore guard, scored a career-high 41 points at Canisius. He made 15 of 19 shots from the field, three of four from three-point range, and eight of nine free throws. It was just the third recorded 40-point game in Loyola’s 99-season history, as well as the first 40-point outing in the MAAC and the most field goals made by a player in the league this season. The 41 points ties the sixth-best performance in the NCAA this season. Barney capped a week when he tallied 20 points at North Carolina State with three steals. He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds with eight points at Duke. Barney averaged 23.0 points with 6.0 rebounds and 2.7 steals while shooting 53.8 percent for the week.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
R.J. Hall, Marist
Freshman, Guard, 5-10, 165, Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield Tech
Hall, a freshman guard, scored a career-high 20 at Binghamton on Dec. 30, shooting 7-for-15 from the field, 3-for-7 from three-point range and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. After sitting out Marist’s game vs. Saint Peter’s on Jan. 2 due to injury, he came to score 15 points in 21 minutes off the bench at Rider on Jan. 4. Hall shot 4-for-5 from the field and 2-for-2 from three-point range in that game. For the week, Hall shot .550 (11-for-20) from the field, .556 (5-for-9) from three-point range and .800 (4-for-5) from the free-throw line while averaging 15.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.
