Niagara University, NY - Former Niagara University men's basketball player Tremmell Darden was selected to the Los Angeles Clippers Summer League roster recently. The Clippers will travel to the Pyramid in Long Beach, Calif., to participate in the Summer Pro League, along with the New York Knicks, Los Angles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Memphis Grizzlies, San Antonio Spurs, and Dallas Mavericks from July 10-17.
Darden finished one of the best collegiate basketball careers in Niagara's history last year. He helped guide the Purple Eagles to the postseason National Invitational Tournament and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament Championship game. Darden averaged 18.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 blocks per game in 2003-04. He also shot 47.7 percent from the field, 37.3 percent from beyond the three-point line and 73.0 percent from the free-throw line.
The Las Vegas, Nev., native finished his career ranked in the top five in four categories, including second in scoring with 1,729 career points. The 6-foot-4 guard was a two-time second team All-MAAC pick, two-time member of the MAAC All-Tournament Team and a 2003-04 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I All-District selection. Darden graduated in May with a degree in business.
Prior to the Clippers traveling to Long Beach, the team will hold a three day mini-camp at L.A Southwest College July 7-9.
