Jacksonville Claims Fourth Consecutive MAAC Women's Rowing Championship

WEST WINDSOR, NJ – Jacksonville University claimed the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Rowing Championship. This is Jacksonville's fourth consecutive MAAC title and the fourth MAAC Championship in program history.
Jacksonville scored a total of 60 points claim the title. This was the first time Jacksonville swept every event in the MAAC Championship. Marist College came in second place with 54 points and Canisius College rounded out the top three with 45 points. In fourth place was Fairfield University with 42 points and in fifth place was Drake University 34 points. Robert Morris University finished with 26 points to earn sixth place, Sacred Heart earned 23 points which put them in seventh place. Iona College placed eight with 18 points. Manhattan College and Stetson University rounded out the competition with 16 and 11 points respectively.
In the Grand Final of the Varsity 4, the Dolphins narrowly defeated Marist. Marist was leading most of the way, then in the final leg of the race, the Dolphins were able to pull away with the victory beating the Red Foxes 8:21.909 to 8:22.849 to earn gold in the event.
Jacksonville won the Second Varsity 8 Grand Final with a time of 7:28.418. Marist came in second place with a time of 7:45.884. In the final race of the day, the Varsity 8 Grand Final, the Dolphins completed the sweep and won gold with a time of 7:21.190.
Jacksonville will represent the MAAC in the 2017 NCAA Women's National Rowing Championship. The event will be held at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, NJ. The event runs from Friday, May 26 through Sunday May 28.
