Canisius' Erica Evans & Fairfield's Riley Hellstein Named to IWLCA Division I All-Region Teams

EDISON, NJ – Canisius College junior midfielder Erica Evans and Fairfield University senior attacker Riley Hellstein were named to Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division I All-Region Teams. Evans was named to the West/Midwest Region First Team and Hellstein was selected to the Northeast Region Second Team.

Evans was named the 2017 MAAC Midfielder of the year for the third consecutive season. She was named the unanimous Midfielder of the Year the last two years, and claimed the 2017 MAAC Championship MVP honor. The junior finished the season with 76 goals to lead the NCAA. This season, Evans set the MAAC record for goals and points (108) in a single-season. She became the first MAAC student-athlete (men's or women's) to register 100 points in a single-season.

The Peterborough, Ontario native recorded a game-high 10 points (six goals, four assists) en route to a victory in the 2017 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship game. Evans took home MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors four times this season (March 13, April 3, April 10, and May 1). She was named a Tewaaraton Award semifinalist on April 28. 

Hellstein earned the 2017 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year honor and was selected to the All-Tournament team for her efforts in the 2017 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship. The senior tallied 73 points (56 goals, 17 assists), the third-most in the MAAC. She was second in the MAAC in goals per game (3.29), second in points per game (4.29), third in goals scored, tied for second in game-winning goals (4), and tied for first in free-position goals (19).

She was a unanimous selection to the All-MAAC First Team at attack and was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season (February 27 & March 27). Hellstein ranked 15th in the nation in goals per game average and was tied for 24th in points per game.

About the IWLCA Division I All-Regions Teams:

The IWLCA has honored 128 student-athletes in Division I with a selection to one of the All-Region teams for 2017. These student-athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Wednesday, May 17. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American Banquet on Saturday June 3, 2017 at the Hunt Valley Inn in Hunt Valley, Md.
